Starting out in dermal filler procedures can be daunting. Here are my top three tips to help you feel more confident when dealing with fillers.

1. Product choice

Fillers all have a different G Prime value. The higher the G Prime, the more lifting ability a filler will have but the more dense the filler will be. The lower G Prime fillers, do not have as much lifting potential but tend to be a lot smoother and more malleable. It is important that when we are assessing our clients, we chose the right filler product for them.

For instance, when treating the smokers lines of somebody who is post-menopausal, we ned to use a much softer filler to avoid lumps and bumps occurring.

2. Take your time

When we are new to something, it is important that we take our time and don’t feel rushed. Make sure you block out enough time in your appointment diary to feel reassured that you don’t have to rush. This gives you time to make sure you get the correct depth with your injection technique and as a result; get the best outcomes for your client.

3. Know your anatomy

One of the biggest fears practitioners have when it comes to dermal filler is the possibility of causing a vascular occlusion. Unfortunately, nothing can completely rule out this risk. There are some things you as a practitioner can do though to try and minimise this risk. One of these things is having a good knowledge of your anatomy. Knowing where the blood vessels lie in comparison to where you are injecting is really important to help avoid complications from occurring.
