Cheeks is one of my all time favourite treatments, and I love being able to teach people how to perform this procedure.

Why is it one of my favourites?

Numerous reasons! It’s relatively straight forward to carry out, usually well tolerated by clients with minimal downtime afterwards, rarely causes complications, and gives a really great, naturally enhanced look to not just the mid face itself, but also to the lower third of the face, by acting as structure to the skin.

What are my top tips for success in injecting this area?

  1. Assessment

Making sure that you fully assess the client from both the front and side profiles is so important. We need to check for asymmetry and to check whether they have a positive, negative or neutral vector…this means looking to see where the cheeks sit with regards to its projection, in comparison to the eye. This helps us to see which areas may be lacking in volume.

  1. “The Beauty spot”

This is the area of the cheek that should have the most projection to be aesthetically pleasing. It can easily be identified by drawing a line between the tragus, and outer corner of the nostril and then a dissecting line from the outer corner of the eye to the ear lobe. Where the two lines cross is the “beauty spot”. Identifying this can help us to decide where our area of maximum projection should be, and then work around this.

  1. Lift or volume

There is a retaining ligament that runs down the side of the face bilaterally. Roughly speaking, filler injected more lateral to this ligamentous line will cause a lift in the tissues, and any filler injected medially to this line will create volume. Awareness of where this ligament runs allows us to plan our treatment, depending on what we are trying to achieve for that individual client.
