Lip augmentation is growing as one of the most popular aesthetic treatments offered by practitioners. It is therefore really important to be able to offer this to our clients so that they don’t go elsewhere. Going somewhere else for their lip augmentation, will most likely mean they then get their botox done whilst they are there for ease, and you risk losing your client.

However, so many of us can feel frightened by the prospect of carrying out lip augmentation.

Why is this? And what can we do to alleviate those concerns?

These are my top tips when it comes to carrying out lip augmentation.

  1. Less can often be more

If a client has had lip augmentation numerous times in the past, they are likely to be aware of the potential for swelling and bruising and feel confident that when this subsides, they will have their desired outcome. But for first time clients, however, the whole process can be quite daunting. If this is the case, I would always suggest starting with smaller amounts of soft filler, so that the client can build their confidence and their lip size gradually.

  1. Enter the lip just below the vermillion border

The white / red border is very vascular and full of nerves. By entering the lip just below this, we not only reduce the amount of pain the patient experiences, but we can also hopefully reduce the amount of bruising that develops too. In addition to this, by entering the lip in this position, it helps to avoid spread of the filler up into the white lip. It is this spread that often gives the swollen “duck lip” type result that most clients are eager to avoid.

  1. Consider your GK points

Glogau Klein (GK) points are the points on the lip where there should be maximal definition. By putting small boluses into these areas, it can help the lip to project in the most natural way possible.
